About the library
Býarbókasavnið public library was founded by Tórshavnar kommuna on 1st April 1969.
The library is located in the main street. Here you can borrow books, audio books, e-books, movies, toys and even works of art. You moreover have access to a reading room for students, computers, printers, copiers, and scanners. There is free WiFi throughout. The reception is located on the ground floor, as is the café where you may read Faroese and foreign newspapers, magazines and journals. Fiction books in english are also located at the ground floor.
The childrens library is located at the 2nd floor, while the library for adults and the library for youths are located on th 1st floor.
You need to register for a library card to be able loan and to use our online resources. If you are a tourist or residing for a short period of time in Tórshavn or elsewhere in the Faroe Islands, you may also use the library, but then there are some special rules. Please contact the library to register and to get more information.
